Located in the heart of Old Muscat, Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of the Sultan of Oman and a prominent landmark that embodies the pride of Oman. The exterior, with its blue and gold columns, white marble, ornate arches, and meticulously maintained gardens, exudes an exotic atmosphere reminiscent of a fairytale palace.
Originally meaning 'The Flag Palace,' this building was reconstructed in 1972 and is primarily used for state events and welcoming foreign dignitaries. While the interior is not open to the public, visitors can admire the grand and unique exterior from the main avenue, gardens, and surrounding walkways, and take plenty of photos!
Behind the palace, the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani stand like a backdrop, offering a unique blend of historical and modern architecture.
The palace is most stunning during clear weather around sunset or at night when it is illuminated. It is also conveniently located near other attractions such as the National Museum and Bait Al Zubair Museum, making it easy to plan your itinerary.
