While strolling through Holland Hill, I stumbled upon some European-style buildings. It turns out Nagasaki is the birthplace of Japanese photography, and there's a photography museum there. The museum features the state-of-the-art Haeishi Yamate Western-style house. Admission is 100 yen. Exhibits include vintage black-and-white photographs of Nagasaki's architecture, people, landscapes, and everything in between.
Besides the extensive collection of old photographs, you can meet the people of Nagasaki from the late Edo period to the Meiji era. You can also see miniatures of cameras and photo development from the past. I learned a lot. The photography museum is located in a well-preserved foreign neighborhood and consists of three or four houses. There's not much to see inside, and English information is scarce, but on a sunny day, it's a pleasant stroll.
