During my trip to Aichi, I visited Benten Pond, a place associated with the Battle of Okehazama. Benten Pond is said to be the "Pond for washing bloody swords" located at the back of the place where Oda Nobunaga examined the heads of Imagawa Yoshimoto and other Imagawa generals in the precincts. The pond has existed since 1560.
The small island in Benten Pond, the Benzaiten shrine in the middle, and the red bridge make for a very atmospheric Benten Pond.
The information sign reads:
・Hojo Pond, where killing is prohibited
・The guardian deity is Benzaiten, who brings good fortune and treasures
・Historical documents from the Edo period refer to it as the "Pond for washing bloody swords." It was written that it was thought to be the place where bloody swords from the Battle of Okehazama were washed.
Worth a visit!
