[Nagoya] A retro building with beautiful red bricks and stained glass

Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture
⌇Nagoya City Municipal Archives⌇

A stroll through Nagoya's retro architecture

The Nagoya City Municipal Archives is a photogenic building with its neo-baroque red bricks and stained glass.

This stunning building is often used for filming dramas.

The grand staircase, with light streaming in through the stained glass ceiling, is a truly beautiful sight.

Completed in 1922 (Taisho 11),
it was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1984. In 1989,
the former Nagoya Court of Appeals, District Court, and Ward Court buildings, designated as Important Cultural Properties, were preserved and opened to the public as the "Municipal Archives."

You can tour the courtrooms, detention centers, solitary confinement cells, and other facilities from the Meiji Constitution.
