🇯🇵✨ 1 Day (or More) in Nagoya – Budget Traveler’s Guide
Sometimes you spot a cheap flight to Nagoya and wonder: “Is there anything to do here?” The answer: absolutely! 🙌 Here’s how to make the most of it:
🏨 Stay: I chose Hostel Wasabi Nagoya Ekimae, just a few minutes from the train station (and the Airport Express). Perfect for saving time + money.
Tip: Arrive before 9:30 AM – reception is closed from 10:00–15:00, so late check-in means you’ll need to use station lockers for luggage.
🚶♂️ Morning Stroll: Wander through the Shike-michi Townscape Preservation District, a charming area with old-style wooden houses and narrow streets.
🏯 Nagoya Castle: Buy your entry ticket (500 yen) and join the free English walking tour at 12:30 PM. Volunteers explain the history and guide you through key castle rooms and gardens. A great way to experience the city’s samurai heritage.
🛍️ Afternoon: If you have energy, stop by the nearby Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology (great for car and history lovers), or relax in one of the city parks.
🍜 Dinner: End the day with a bowl of local ramen. Remember, some smaller shops are cash only.
💡 Budget Tips:
Convenience stores like 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Lawson are your friends for cheap snacks & drinks.
After 7 PM, supermarkets often discount takeaway bento, sushi, and other meals – perfect for saving yen.
If you stay a few nights, Nagoya is an amazing base for day trips by train to nearby towns and onsens (hot springs).
✨ Optional: Explore more of Nagoya’s museums if you have time – the city has plenty to keep you busy!
