The Liangdai Village site is located in Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province. The site's area and the thickness of its cultural layer are unknown. Pottery fragments have been recovered from the site, primarily clay and sand-tempered red pottery. Decorative patterns include line and rope patterns, and vessels include pointed-bottom bottles and jars. These artifacts represent remains of the Yangshao culture.
Liangdai Village, part of Zancun Town in Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province, is located on a terrace on the west bank of the Yellow River, 7 kilometers northeast of the city center. Within approximately 4 square kilometers of Liangdai Village and its surrounding area, 103 tombs and 17 chariot and horse pits from the Western and Eastern Zhou dynasties have been discovered. Preliminary confirmation suggests that the area north of Liangdai Village was a large cemetery dating from the late Western Zhou Dynasty to the early Eastern Zhou Dynasty. Four of the large tombs with passageways are believed to be those of princes. The cemetery covers approximately 330,000 square meters.
Archaeological excavations in Hancheng City during the Shang and Zhou dynasties mainly focus on site investigations. Excavations of tombs from the Western and Eastern Zhou dynasties are essentially blank, and very few tombs from the same period have been discovered throughout Shaanxi Province. Therefore, the discovery of the high-ranking aristocratic tombs from the Western and Eastern Zhou dynasties in Liangdai Village is of great value for understanding and studying the archaeological culture of the Zhou Dynasty in Shaanxi and along the Yellow River, the burial system, and social history from the late Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period.
