Light Street in Arimatsu

Spot: Arimatsu Townscape
Address: 1F, Shibori Kaikan, 3008 Arimatsu, Midori-ku, Nagoya, Aichi 458-0924

Arimatsu has flourished since the Edo period as a town known for its indigo dyeing technique known as Arimatsu Shibori, and its old streets remain to this day. In 2019, it was designated a Japan Heritage Site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. During the Autumn Festival (the first Sunday of October) held by Arimatsu Tenmangu Shrine, the patron deity of the Arimatsu area, large floats displaying mechanical dolls parade through the town, attracting many tourists.
This year, the Light Street in Arimatsu will be held from September 3rd through the Autumn Festival on October 2nd. From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the street will be illuminated with lanterns made from Sanshu roof tiles.
