Okinawa Museum of Art

The Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, located in the Shintoshin district of Naha, opened in 2007. Its exterior is inspired by the imagery of castle ruins from the Ryukyu era, including Nakijin Castle, Nakajo Castle, and Katsuren Castle. The building incorporates modern elements and utilizes extensive Ryukyu limestone, constructed using precast concrete.

The fortress-like exterior features rounded corners, but within this fortress shell, a bright and modern atmosphere is exuded. The double-skin design, including the characteristic latticework, allows for exceptionally bright and reflective light. The transition zone between inside and outside also creates a perceived lowered temperature.
