The Nakijin Castle Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the most representative cherry blossom events in Okinawa, attracting a large number of tourists every year. The cherry blossoms here are mainly the Hikanzakura, which are dark pink in color and bell-shaped. Compared with the cherry blossoms on the main island of Japan, they bloom relatively earlier, usually between late January and mid-February.
The Nakijin Castle ruins are a historical relic of the Ryukyu Kingdom. They were once the residence of the King of Kitayama and are now a World Cultural Heritage. The cherry blossoms form a unique beauty against the backdrop of the ancient city walls and the magnificent sea view. Visitors can enjoy the colorful cherry blossoms during the day, or participate in special lighting events at night to experience the romance of night cherry blossoms.
During the event, in addition to viewing the flowers, visitors can also experience traditional art performances of Ryukyu culture, making the entire cherry blossom viewing trip more colorful. The cherry blossoms in Nakijin Castle are not only a natural beauty, but also a fusion of history and culture. It is unique to enjoy the cherry blossoms at the ruins of the ancient city wall.
