Who says off-the-beaten-path destinations have no surprises? This time, let's unlock the slow life experience in Bazhong 🚩, a underrated small city in eastern Sichuan that hides a 5A-level scenic area, with fewer crowds and beautiful views~
🚶♂️2 days 1 night essential itinerary
Day 1: Explore Guangwu Mountain
📍Guangwu Mountain Scenic Area (Nanjiang County, Bazhong City, open 8:00-18:00)
A must-visit 5A-level red leaf viewing spot, beautiful like an ink painting all year round! It’s recommended to take the sightseeing bus to Xianglu Mountain, then hike down to see the Shibayue Tan Waterfall Group. Remember to wear non-slip shoes~ At the foot of the mountain, Tieluba Village has many farm stays. Try the Nanjiang yellow goat hot pot, which is warming and delicious.
Day 2: Visit ancient sites + city walk
📍Enyang Ancient Town (Enyang District, Bazhong City, open all day)
Well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, with cobblestone streets perfect for photos. At the corner, "Hu’s Teahouse" serves old-style Yin tea, and the second-floor window is the best spot to photograph the stilted buildings!
📍Nankan Mountain Cliff Carvings (Bazhou District, Bazhong City, open 9:00-17:00)
A living fossil of Tang dynasty grotto art, with 37 niches of Buddha statues full of historical weight. The scenic area is small but the guide’s explanation is very vivid. After visiting, it’s convenient to stop by the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area Memorial Hall at the foot of the mountain.
🍜 Food highlights:
✔️ Sugar-coated sesame cake: The most authentic from Wang Ma’s shop in Enyang Ancient Town, freshly baked with an irresistible sesame aroma
✔️ Sesame shell: The crispiest sold from a pushcart at Zhangjia Alley in the old town
✔️ Banqiao Mahua (fried dough twist): Recommended to buy souvenirs at the main store near Jiangbei Bus Station
💡 Practical Tips:
1. Guangwu Mountain is at a high altitude, remember to bring a jacket and rain gear
2. Taxis in Bazhong city are cheap, but it’s better to rent a car for scenic spots (about 200-300 RMB/day)
3. Off-the-beaten-path scenic areas have simple facilities, so it’s safer to bring your own snacks and water
