The Hakka Tulou Buildings in Fujian. What a great adventure!

Visiting the #fujian province and its Hakka tulou (buildings) was incredible! 🤩 🇨🇳

So, just a couple of hours driving from #xiamen you can discover the traditional #hakka culture and their astonishing tulou clusters, rectangular or circular buildings mostly built between the 12th and 20th centuries.

Those buildings can host a few hundreds people at once and they were built using compacting earth, mixed with stone, bamboo, wood and other readily materials that make very think walls (1.8 metre) to keep a cool temperature during summer and warm temperatures in winter.

Usually those buildings have one entrance gate and inside everything you needed to keep your family safe, a house, shops and a temple.

Visiting a few of those building made me feel like they used to be little towns on their own, where hundreds of people lived inside the same building living their life like the outside world could not even exist.

I was lucky to visit some very popular clusters, the Zhencheng Lou, the Hongkeng Tulou (where I slept in for one night) and the Chuxi tulou.

The last 3 images are from the 140 years old building I was lucky enough to spend the night while visiting the area.

Local food (literally the vegetables growing along the river and some “local” chickens) was also interestingly good 😋

Weather wise was not great, would like to return once again in the future. I loved it 🥰
