A secluded beach perfect for photography: Shinbaru Beach in Nanjo City

Compared to the popular beaches in central and northern Okinawa, Shinbaru Beach in Nanjo City, located in southern Okinawa, is much less crowded. When we visited in the morning, there were only three Western tourists besides us!

One of the highlights of Shinbaru Beach is its glass-bottom boats, which allow you to admire the beautiful coral reefs and colorful tropical fish through the transparent glass at the bottom of the boat. However, we weren’t there for the fish; our main purpose was to take a photo shoot for my wife.

After stepping onto the beach, head to the right side where there are more rock formations. It’s easy to capture stunning photos featuring the sea and sand, sand and rocks, or a combination of sea, rocks, and sand in one frame. Swimming is allowed here all year round, and the beach is freely accessible.

Additionally, here’s some practical parking information to share: there are parking lots at the Shinbaru Community Center and the Shinbaru Underwater Sightseeing Center. There’s also a parking lot near the Kalika restaurant, which is located between the two aforementioned spots. This parking area has more spaces, and the fee is 500 yen per use.
