Ainokura, along with nearby Suganuma and Shirakawa-go, has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site of equal importance. Located deep within Gokayama, Ainokura is less accessible, with limited bus services and fewer visitors compared to the bustling Shirakawa-go. This has allowed the village to preserve its ancient traditional lifestyle and natural scenery.

The village is still inhabited, and many houses have gardens where various vegetables are grown, reflecting a self-sufficient way of life. The village appears smaller in size compared to Shirakawa-go. Don't forget to climb to a higher vantage point to capture a panoramic view!
