Rating: Located near Cingjing Farm, this is a highly praised Yunnan Dai-style restaurant at an altitude of over 2,000 meters. Lunch and dinner are available, and you need to wait for a table on site. If you don't arrive early during holidays! You need to wait for a while. The store has a parking lot and an outdoor waiting area for tourists to take photos. The exterior of the building is similar to that of a European manor, which shows the care that the owner put into the construction of the restaurant.
This time I mainly want to eat steam pot chicken and beef soup! Since we went up the mountain on Thursday, a public holiday, no one answered the phone. When I arrived at the site the next day, I found out that the steam pot chicken needs to be booked in advance.
So this time we only ordered beef pa hu soup. We also ordered rice noodles, broth, fried cabbage, pepper and sesame chicken, twice-cooked pork, glutinous rice and pepper fried dried fish, cold pea flour, glutinous rice cakes, etc. Almost filled the table.
Niu Pa Hu soup is a clear stew of beef or beef offal, and it also uses Yunnan's unique spices, probably mint and coriander. A dipping sauce made with soup base served in a small dish. Because it is stewed until it is very soft, it is called Pa Hu. The taste is actually similar to beef consommé, but the seasoning is more Southeast Asian and uses spices. The meat is also very soft.
In addition, stir-fried dried fish with glutinous rice and pepper and stir-fried cabbage are two highly recommended side dishes. The former goes well with rice, while the latter is refreshing.
I personally think the rice noodles are okay. The soup and taste are not bad, but it doesn’t have much flavor. The rice noodles are not as chewy as I imagined.
The pepper and sesame chicken and stir-fried pork performed poorly. The pepper and sesame chicken tasted ordinary, the pepper and sesame feeling was not strong, and the skin was not crispy. I personally choose pork belly for twice-cooked pork, and the slices are cut a bit thick. Pre-treatment did not soften the meat. So it tastes very hard. Moreover, the taste of twice-cooked pork is different if it does not contain second-cut pork. The seasoning is heavy and a bit salty.
Glutinous rice cakes and pea flour are considered special after-meal snacks. You can order it and try it out, as taste preferences vary from person to person.
Overall, Lu Mama is a unique stir-fry restaurant. Most of the dishes have a strong flavor and the taste is average. I will order the steam pot chicken next time I visit. Maybe things will change.
