Nara is often known for its deer and temples, but step a little off the beaten path and you’ll find a calm, spacious side of the city that’s perfect for slowing down.
I started the day at Heijo Palace Historical Park, a wide open space filled with history and fresh air. Strolling around the old palace grounds was both peaceful and inspiring.
The highlight here is the Daigokuden Hall, an impressive reconstruction of Nara’s ancient imperial hall. Standing before it, I felt like I had traveled back in time.
To cool off, I headed to the Kingyo Museum (Goldfish Museum) — a playful and artistic space filled with beautifully lit aquariums. It’s refreshing, especially in the summer!
Why I recommend Nara for a slow day:
・You can enjoy wide open parks and historic architecture without the crowds
・Unexpected spots like the goldfish museum make it fun and unique!
