Getting There - Negombo is a city on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of the capital, Colombo. It’s the closest town to the airport so most visitors would come directly after landing. Local mini vans run frequently to take you from the airport to the beach town at a reasonable price.


Highlight - Despite not being the kind of resort beach town compared with Ella or Mirissa in the south of Sri Lanka, Negombo has made its name known with its lively local life. Beyond its sands lies an interesting mix: a colonial-built canal and crumbled fort; a lively fish market, traditional fishing communities, and a wildlife-rich lagoon.
