Get Spirited Away At Jiufen, The Infamous Studio Ghibli Teahouse Town In New Taipei

Jiufen is a seaside mountain town made famous by the Studio Ghibli film - spirited away. It is famous for its old tea houses and narrow wishing streets, particularly the main ‘old street’. You’re able to experience traditional Taiwanese tea culture and get a glimpse of life outside of the main cities.

There are lots of great places for souvenirs and tea to take home in little packs, they’re also lots of tea houses with amazing views out over the coast. There are also quite a few smaller temples if you wander the roads that lead down the mountain, I found some of those had the best view points of the surrounding areas.

Luckily we were able to drive with friends but there are lots of bus routes from Taipei and surrounding towns. There’s also a train station near that then has a shuttle bus to the town.
