If Taiwan were a face, Bitoujiao would be its nose—literally. The name “Bitoujiao” (鼻頭角) translates to “nose tip cape,” and this dramatic headland on the northeastern coast offers one of the island’s most scenic hikes, where emerald cliffs plunge into sapphire waves and sea breezes carry whispers of ancient mariners.
🕰️ A Glimpse into Bitoujiao’s Past
Historically, Bitoujiao served as a strategic lookout point for fishermen and naval patrols. The Bitoujiao Lighthouse, built in 1897 during Japanese rule, still stands sentinel over the Pacific, guiding ships and hikers alike. The area was once a military zone, which helped preserve its rugged beauty from overdevelopment.
