🌐Environment/Facilities: The 8-hectare Black Reflecting Pool roars into the abyss. A plaza surrounded by 400 oak trees is inscribed with the names of 2,983 victims. The underground museum houses a twisted fire truck, a staircase, and recordings of last calls.
🕰️Hours: The memorial plaza is open 24 hours. The museum is open Thursday-Monday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM). *Reservations are recommended for guided tours.
💞Recommended: 1. The power of architectural metaphor: The twin waterfalls symbolize the passing yet unending flow of life. At night, light shines through the gaps between the inscriptions, like breaths of air. 2. Immersive history: Survivor narrations and a guided tour guide recreate the events minute by minute. The massive steel columns of Foundation Hall retain the original tower structure. 3. A moving ritual: White roses are placed in the names of victims on their birthdays. Every year on September 11, the morning sun shines brightly on the South Tower Memorial. 4. Suggested itinerary: Take a bird's-eye view of the Memorial Pool from the Oculus Skylight → See the "9/11 Survivor Tree" from St. Paul's Cathedral → See the reborn skyline from the World Trade Center Observation Deck
💰Average Cost: Museum admission $33, Memorial Plaza free
📍Address: 180 Greenwich St, New York, NY 10007 (Directly connected to the E Line subway station)
📌Tips: The temperature inside the museum stays below 20°C year-round, so bring a jacket! There's a free survivor sharing session every Tuesday afternoon.
