This is the ninth wonder of the world and one of the most anticipated destinations of our New Zealand 🇳🇿 trip.
After booking our tickets 🎫 in advance, we finally arrived. The first part of the tour was guided by a Maori guide who explained in English the formation of stalactites and various stalagmites. Having seen larger caves in our home country, we weren't initially impressed. However, as we followed the guide to the underground river and boarded the boat, we embarked on a magical journey 🌙. As the boat entered the dark waterway, we were gradually surrounded by a mysterious blue glow. This light wasn't from stars or lamps but from thousands of glowworms forming a brilliant galaxy.
My young daughter whispered in my ear, "Dad, I see the Milky Way 🌌," and I wanted to say that we had entered a fairyland. The surroundings were silent, with only the sound of water stirred by the boat and the occasional drip in the distance. We instinctively slowed our breathing, afraid to disturb the tranquility and beauty of these tiny creatures. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are not just a natural wonder but a miracle of life, and we were fortunate to be part of this enchanting journey, witnessing this underground miracle and romance 💕.
