Kai Kinugawa Winter Special Kaiseki

Stayed at KAI Kinugawa in February 2024.

For dinner, we had the winter special kaiseki "Ryujin Nabe Kaiseki with spiny lobster and beef loin."

•Appetizer: Beef and shallot tartare with Tochiotome dressing
•Stewed soup: Nanjing puree, deep-fried daikon mochi, crab and flower tofu
•Horaku platter: Hassun (brown egg, tosa-dressed burdock, duck and apple skewers, snow crab kosode sushi, sea cucumber ponzu, foie gras dried persimmon, conger eel and burdock in Hakata taro)
•Assorted sashimi: Tuna, amberjack, shrimp
•Vinegared dish: Tosa-dressed seasonal blessings
•Fried dish: Deep-fried shirako tofu, freshly ground deep-fried pounded shrimp, vegetable tempura
•Main dish: Sankai Ryujin nabe (lobster, beef loin, rolled tofu skin, kanpyo, set of vegetables)
•Meal: clay pot rice with dried gourd and sansho pepper, pickles
•Sweet dish: Kai Kinugawa special soy milk jelly with yuzu flavor

I love the food at Kai because every facility is a visual treat.

Despite being in the mountains of Kinugawa, the lobster and seafood such as sashimi are delicious.

We also had a lot of ingredients unique to Tochigi, such as yuba and dried gourd.

They also had a good selection of sake, which was great.
