If you love history and Zen Buddhism, Shofukuji Temple is a must-see! It’s Japan’s very first Zen temple, founded in 1195, and it has a deep sense of tranquility. The temple grounds are spacious, with classic Zen-style architecture, moss-covered stone paths, and well-manicured gardens. Unlike some other temples, visitors can’t enter all the buildings, but just walking around and taking in the peaceful atmosphere was worth it. I loved seeing the large wooden gates and the beautiful koi pond. It’s not as crowded as some of the other temples in Fukuoka, which made the visit even more special. It’s a great place to relax, take photos, and appreciate the beauty of Zen design. If you’re looking for a quiet, spiritual escape in the city, this is the perfect place to visit. Highly recommend for anyone interested in Japanese culture and history!
