[Okayama] The Beauty of Black Lacquer, the History and Charm of Okayama Castle

Okayama Castle is a historic castle known as the symbol of Okayama City. It was constructed in 1597 at the end of the Sengoku period.

Built by Ukita Hideie, it is also affectionately known as "Ujo" (Crow Castle).

This name comes from its distinctive black lacquered exterior walls.

The castle was once destroyed by fire during wartime, but was rebuilt in 1966 and is now open to the public as a museum.

From the castle tower, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the neighboring Korakuen Garden and Asahikawa, offering spectacular views throughout the seasons. Okayama Castle also hosts armor-trying experiences and seasonal events, making it a popular spot for spending time while learning about history.
