Okazaki Castle is the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the "birthplace of the divine lord."
It is also known as Dragon Castle, due to its many dragon-related legends.
Legend has it that when Takechiyo (later Ieyasu) was born, black clouds swirled above the castle, and a golden dragon appeared.

The three-story, five-story castle tower, rebuilt in 1959, is beloved by locals as a symbol of Okazaki City.

Since ancient times, the castle has flourished as a key transportation hub along the Tokaido Road, and the song goes, "Even with a fief of 50,000 koku, Lord Okazaki's boats can reach the castle."
