Mount Arashima, towering over Ono City, Fukui Prefecture, is a 1,523-meter-high freestanding peak. It's been selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, and its beautiful conical shape has earned it the nickname "Ono Fuji." Its snow-capped winter appearance is awe-inspiring, and its changing appearance with each season captivates climbers.
There are several hiking trails, but the most common is the Katsuhara Trail. Starting from the former Katsuhara Ski Resort, it passes through a beech forest and ascends steeply to the summit. While this authentic hiking trail takes approximately three and a half hours one way, the views of the Hakusan mountain range and the Kuzuryu River along the way are exceptional. From the summit, a 360-degree panorama unfolds, and on clear days, you can see as far as Mount Haku and the Sea of Japan.
Near the peak are many famous spots, such as Rhododendron Plain and Mochigabe, and during the hiking season, the trail is adorned with flowers. Enjoy beautiful scenery year-round, from fresh greenery in spring, blue skies in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and blankets of snow in winter.
