Shirakawa-go Village is just as beautiful in summer! ☀️
Most people imagine a snowy village in winter, but we visited Shirakawa-go in summer. Summer actually has its own charm.
Nestled amidst the mountains in Gifu Prefecture, the village's distinctive feature is its "gassho-zukuri" style houses, with their high, folded roofs designed to withstand the snow. When there's no snow, the golden straw roofs contrast with the green fields, creating a different atmosphere. However, let me tell you, summer in Japan is incredibly hot. Walking from the beginning of the village to the end of it, I almost burned myself.
☀️ Summer Highlights:
- The rice fields and lush green trees dot the village, providing a soothing sight.
- Fewer tourists.
- A more pleasant stroll than in winter.
🚶♀️ Village Touring:
You can easily walk around without rushing. There are souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants, and an observation deck offering a bird's-eye view of the entire village. The views are stunning. 📸
🍡 Recommended Food:
Try the dango (grilled meat). The aroma is amazing, perfect for a break from sightseeing. For dessert, there's both shaved ice and soft serve ice cream throughout the village.
Most people choose winter because it's as beautiful as a postcard. But if you want to see a more peaceful and vibrant side of the village, summer is a great place to visit. 🌻
