Thousand Year Old Tenmangu Shrine in Osaka, Japan 🇯🇵

Japan has always been one of my bucket list destinations and last year I finally got the chance to visit!

Tenmangu Shrine was founded in 949 AD making it over one thousand years old. It’s one of the most important shrines across Japan that are devoted to Tenjin, who is the Shinto deity of scholarship. The shrine has been destroyed by fire a number of times, but the current main hall and gate date back to 1845.

One of Japan’s top rated festivals, Tenjin Matsuri, the shrine’s deity is paraded through the city of Osaka in a procession with fireworks 🎆
