Takoume Oden, Osaka’s oldest oden shop, tucked away in the Dotonbori area, has been open for over a hundred years!

This oden shop opened alongside the famous Dotonbori food street, over a century old. It’s a small shop with only about 20 seats. I believe many people have walked past this shop without knowing what it is.

Once inside, the atmosphere feels like stepping out of a Showa-era Japanese movie. The first thing that hits you is the fragrant aroma of the soup spreading throughout the shop. There’s an elderly man standing, simmering the oden and serving customers as they order. Most customers are Japanese, but now they have an English menu, making ordering very easy. I’ve eaten here since the days when only Japanese was available.

The shop has an English menu with pictures, so it’s no problem. Just order whatever you want or point directly at the pot. I have to say, it’s very delicious!! The daikon radish is simmered until it melts in your mouth, the konjac is chewy and bouncy, and the fish balls are great—everything is excellent. Be sure to order a cold drink too, it’s fantastic!!!! Prices start from 150 to 500 yen. Ordering a lot can add up to several thousand yen, but it’s worth it because it’s so tasty.

If you want to find a place with the Dotonbori atmosphere, I highly recommend this shop. I really love the atmosphere here.
