This robatayaki restaurant called "Robatayaki Isaribi" was highly recommended to me by a friend who has lived in Osaka for many years as a great spot for late-night snacks. He said even locals in Osaka love to go there, and it’s really something special—not just one of those "check-in" places from travel guides.
The location is in Kita-ku, Osaka City, Shibata 1-chome 5-12, Basement B1. The entrance is so small it’s easy to miss. We stood at the door for a while before finding the narrow staircase leading downstairs. As soon as we went down, the smell of charcoal hit us, and seeing the crowd waiting at the door already told us tonight wouldn’t disappoint.
Once inside, the atmosphere was lively and packed. Hearing the laughter of the Osaka locals at the next table made us feel happier. My friend also mentioned that Osaka’s izakayas are much more generous compared to Tokyo’s; people talk more freely and there’s a warmer, friendlier vibe.
The staff were super friendly. Seeing that we weren’t locals, they didn’t mind the trouble and used simple Japanese plus gestures to explain the menu. We finished ordering in just a few minutes. The four of us girls ordered quite a lot—fish, grilled chicken skewers, roasted vegetables, tamagoyaki, plus two bottles of sake. We ate until we were full and only spent about HKD 750. It was really affordable, no wonder so many Osaka people are regulars!
If you go to Osaka, don’t miss these local late-night spots. Compared to eating in crowded tourist areas, these hidden gems offer a much more authentic experience~
