During my trip to Osaka, I ordered an Osaka Amazing Pass online for one day. There are two versions: a one-day pass and a two-day pass. In addition to unlimited subway and train rides within Osaka City, the pass also offers free entry to approximately 40 sightseeing attractions. I bought the one-day pass and was able to visit Osaka Castle, ride the Osaka Aqualiner, the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, Museum of Housing and Living, and the Hep Five Ferris wheel.
On the day, I made reservations for the Osaka Aqualiner at the Osaka Water Bus Terminal. I could disembark at Hachikenyahama Pier or return to Osaka Castle Port. Enjoy the seasonal scenery of Osaka on this 55-minute boat tour, passing by tourist attractions such as Osaka Castle, Kyobashi Bridge, Tenmabashi Bridge, Osaka City Central Public Hall, Yodoyabashi Bridge, Naniwa Bridge, Nakanoshima Island, Tenjin Bridge, Hachikenyahama Pier, Kawasaki Bridge, the Osaka Mint, Sakuranomiya Bridge, and the Osaka Castle Tunnel. I disembarked at Hachikenyahama Pier and walked 15 minutes to Osaka Castle.
Osaka Castle's main tower was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a renowned general during the late 15th century of Japan's Warring States Period. After being damaged in war, the Tokugawa shogunate rebuilt it during the Edo period, but a thunderstorm destroyed the tower. In 1931, the castle tower was rebuilt with donations from Osaka citizens, and the surrounding area was renovated and redeveloped into Osaka Castle Park. The castle tower houses numerous artifacts from the Warring States period and related to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. For an additional fee, you can try out the costumes of a Warring States general and take photos. This is a must-see for history buffs. The observation deck on the highest floor offers a panoramic view of Osaka Castle Park from approximately 50 meters above! If you're just exploring this area, you can also visit Osaka Castle Park, Nishinomaru Gardens, and ride the Osaka Castle Gozabune.
The Osaka Museum of Living and Living (Osaka Kurashi no Konjakukan) is Japan's first specialized museum focused on living. While you can admire exhibits themed around streets and lifestyles, it's recommended to visit the 10th-floor observatory for a panoramic view of the city. The observatory recreates the streets of Edo-era Osaka, showcasing authentic machiya architecture. Don't miss the kimono experience inside the museum. Buy your ticket at the ticket machine, select your outfit, and the staff will quickly help you put it on, including geta clogs. For just 1,000 yen, you can freely stroll and take photos on the 9th floor for 30 minutes. The best part is, you can step into the Edo period without having to venture out to find the sights. Then head to the 8th floor, "Modern Osaka," which showcases Osaka's cityscapes and daily life from the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras, along with various historical exhibits and models.
"HEP FIVE" is located in the heart of Umeda, Osaka. A giant red Ferris wheel sits atop it. On clear days, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Akashi Strait. A single ride takes about 15 minutes. I took it at night, and the surrounding buildings' illuminated features and animated advertisements were a truly unique experience.
