Oshino Hakkai: Explore the secret springs beneath Mount Fuji and encounter the Japanese pastoral poetry

Visiting Tips:

Oshino Hakkai is a thousand-year-old village at the foot of Mount Fuji, renowned for its eight clear springs. It's known as the "Jiuzhaigou of Japan." Visit early in the morning or afternoon to avoid the tourist crowds. Stroll through the thatched cottages and stone alleyways, immersing you in the tranquility of a Japanese countryside. The "Wakurai Pond" at the entrance is a prime photo spot, its turquoise waters reflecting Mount Fuji (in clear weather). Wear light-colored clothing to blend in with the natural scenery.

Follow the signs to visit each of the eight springs. Choshi Pond is the largest, while Okama Pond is renowned for its depth. Bring some breadcrumbs to feed the koi in the ponds. The freshly baked rice crackers at the village's long-standing shop, Oshino Senbei, are crispy and delicious, perfect with matcha ice cream. In autumn, as the maple leaves gradually turn red along the way, visit the shrines to experience the intertwining of ancient charm and autumn colors.

Before leaving the village, we recommend taking in the panoramic views of Mount Fuji from the observation deck, or picking up some Oshino Hakkai cosmetics, freshly scented with spring water, as souvenirs. You can also combine visits to nearby Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako to experience the natural springs and stunning scenery.
