Hokkaido's "Otaru Canal" is a famous tourist spot

Just standing along the Otaru Canal is a picturesque tourist spot. There are walking paths with gas lights and a group of stone warehouses that have been reused as restaurants.

Access: About 10 minutes on foot from JR Otaru Station (about 50 minutes by local train from JR Sapporo Station to JR Otaru Station)

Asakusabashi-gaien, where the tourist information center is located, is a representative photo spot. Next to it was the Otaru Citizens' Tap Water Contact Fountain (photos 3-6)

It seems that the debate over whether to fill in the canal lasted for more than a decade, but we are grateful to our ancestors who worked hard to preserve its remains. When talking about tourist areas in Hokkaido, this spot is almost always mentioned. Recommended ☺️
