Otaru, a city where the canal winds through

This trip to Hokkaido was a spontaneous decision, and I brought my family along. Without prior planning, we decided to join a tour group. However, being part of a group meant restricted routes and limited free time, so the experience wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been!

Otaru is a port city, and many of its buildings date back to when it was a thriving hub for trade and commerce. The historic buildings along the canal, many of which are over a century old, have now been transformed into shops, cafes, and glassware studios. To be honest... it felt quite commercialized. We just strolled around casually and left shortly after.
