The Otaru Canal, the representative scenery of Otaru, Hokkaido, is a gently winding river. It was originally used for small boats to transport goods. Although the transportation task has ended, the canal is still preserved. From about 18:00 every night to the early morning, the gas lamps along the coast will light up, which is very atmospheric for a walk.
If you take a boat, the voyage starts from Chuo Bridge, then enters Otaru Port, and then comes to the nostalgic "North Canal" with many ships, the South Canal Asakusa Bridge, and finally returns to Chuo Bridge. It takes about 40 minutes for one trip. You can easily enjoy the representative riverside scenery of Otaru by boat!
If you walk, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the coast, go to the shops and shopping streets converted from stone warehouses to choose must-buy products, and go to restaurants to enjoy local must-eat food. You can also take the Otaru Canal tour boat to sightsee on the river. Not only is the snow scenery in winter beautiful, it is worth visiting all year round!
