White Sands is one of the most surreal places I’ve ever visited. The gypsum sand is so pure white it looks like snow—and it squeaks under your feet. I went dune sledding at sunset, and the sky turned every color imaginable while the sand glowed pink and lavender. There’s a peaceful silence here, broken only by the wind. I stayed for stargazing and was rewarded with an incredibly clear Milky Way view. It’s easy to access and family-friendly, but still feels remote and magical. Whether you hike, sled, or just picnic, this is an unforgettable stop.
