🏘Wat Sao Thong Thong, formerly known as Wat Suan Mak due to its abundance of betel palm trees, was built by the Mon people who settled on Koh Kret during the Ayutthaya period. The Mon called it Phia-alat, meaning "Western Temple," due to its location on the west side of Koh Kret.
🏡Later, Chao Chom Manda Ampha, during the reign of King Rama II, renovated it in the late reign of King Rama IV. The temple was renamed Wat Sao Thong Thong, due to the numerous swan pillars erected in front of the temple.
Highlights of the temple include:
🏠The Ubosot (ordination hall) features a gold-painted conical base and houses a principal stucco Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture.
⛺The Vihara (vihara) houses Luang Pho Than Chai.
🛕The large, twelve-sided, recessed chedi is the tallest in Pak Kret District. It is surrounded by two additional chedis, each enclosing two levels.
🛕Beside the Ubosot are two larger chedis: one is a round bell-shaped chedi and the other has a unique shape with a square base.
