🏣Kek Lok Si Temple, also known as the Turtle Mountain Temple, is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. Built between 1890 and 1930, it is a major religious destination for tourists from Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
💞This temple combines elements and traditions of Mahayana, Theravada, and local Chinese beliefs.
Highlights and landmarks within the temple include:
🛕The Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda, a seven-story, 30-meter-tall structure laid by King Rama VI, hence its name, the Pagoda of King Rama VI. It was completed in 1930.
👨👧👦It features a combination of a Chinese-style octagonal base, a Thai-style central section, and a Burmese-style spire, representing the peaceful coexistence of Malaysia's diverse ethnic groups and religions. Inside, a Buddha image, bestowed by King Rama IX, is enshrined.
🙏🏽A statue of the Bodhisattva Guan Yin. Made of bronze, it stands 36.57 meters tall and is surrounded by 100 Guan Yin Bodhisattva statues, each 2 meters high.
🏣The prayer hall houses three large Guan Yin statues: Manjushri Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva of wisdom; Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, also known as Guan Yin; and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva of excellence in conduct and great vows.
