One of the most unforgettable parts of my trip in Malaysia was visiting the Perhentian Islands. With turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and vibrant marine life, it felt like stepping into a postcard.
🌸 Why it’s special: The Perhentians are actually two islands - Perhentian Besar (the larger, quieter one) and Perhentian Kecil (smaller, more lively and budget-friendly). Known for their crystal-clear water and coral reefs, they’re a top spot for diving and snorkeling, but also perfect if you simply want to relax in paradise.
📸 What to do:
- Go snorkeling or diving: the reefs are full of colorful fish, turtles, and even reef sharks.
- Spend time on Long Beach (Kecil) or Coral Bay, two of the most beautiful beaches.
- Take a boat tour around the islands to discover hidden coves and snorkeling spots.
- Hike through the jungle trails connecting beaches for adventure and views.
- At night, enjoy the beachside atmosphere with fire shows and fresh seafood.
✍🏼 Travel tips:
- Best season: March to October (during dry season). The islands close during monsoon (November–February).
- How to get there: From Kuala Besut Jetty, boats take 30–45 minutes to the islands.
- Where to stay: Choose Perhentian Besar for a quieter escape or Kecil for a more vibrant backpacker vibe.
- Cash only: ATMs are scarce, so bring enough with you.
🎉 Extra tip: Don’t miss a sunset on Coral Bay — it’s one of the most beautiful in Malaysia.
For me, the Perhentian Islands were everything I dreamed of: pristine beaches, incredible marine life, and a true feeling of being far away from the world.
