History and Background

Wat Phra Si Sanphet was the most important temple during the Ayutthaya period. It served as both the royal temple and the private temple of the king. Built within the royal grounds without resident monks, it served as a model for Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram (or Wat Phra Kaew) today. In the past, this temple was used for many important royal ceremonies, including the Royal Water Oath-Taking Ceremony. It also housed the royal ashes of some kings. It is located in Pratu Chai Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet is open daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Thais 10 baht, Foreigners 50 baht
