Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Ayutthaya Province, Chai Mongkhon Chedi

Ayutthaya is a province that has many important and ancient temples and sites that have been part of Thai history for hundreds of years. This makes it another place to visit near Bangkok for worshiping and making merit on holidays or important religious days. Today, we will take you to worship at Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, a beautiful and sacred temple. See the beauty of the Phra Chedi Chai Mongkol.

The highlight of Wat Yai is the Phra Chedi Chai Mongkol, which is believed to have been built during the reign of King Naresuan the Great during his victory in the Elephant Battle to celebrate his victory over the Maha Uparat of Burma and to name it “Chedi Chai Mongkol” in 2135 B.E. However, most people call it “Phra Chedi Yai”, which is why it is believed that this is the origin of the name “Wat Yai Chai Mongkol”.
