The 600-year-old Large Reclining Buddha | Ayutthaya
This is “Wat Sam Wihan”, which is believed to have been built in the early Ayutthaya period during the reign of King Borommarachathirat I (Khun Luang Phra Ngua). It was originally called “Wat Sam Phihan” and later changed to “Wat Sam Wihan” because there were originally 3 temples:
#Reclining Buddha Temple
Inside is the Reclining Buddha (Reclining Buddha), a 21-meter-long Sukhothai-style stucco Buddha statue that is over 600 years old. People often come here to pray for it to ward off bad things. It is believed that if you are cursed or under black magic, touching your head to the big toe and index finger of the Reclining Buddha will help you escape.
#Nang Phra Temple
This is where Luang Pho Khao, a stucco Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, is enshrined. The Buddha statue is 4.6 meters wide.
As for the Standing Buddha Temple, it has collapsed over time. In the temple, there is also a large bell-shaped pagoda, approximately 40 meters high, which is a pagoda from the early Ayutthaya period. Influenced by Sukhothai art and 17 carved stone sema stones around the chapel. One in front of the chapel was shot by Phraya Ram's Narai San Suan cannonball, and the marks are still visible today.
