Wat Phutthaisawan: Ancient monuments along the Chao Phraya River
Wat Phutthaisawan is an ancient temple located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Sampao Lom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. It is historically and religiously significant and is one of the places that was not destroyed when Ayutthaya fell, so you can still see traces of beautiful ancient architecture and art.
History and background
This temple was built during the reign of King Ramathibodi I (King U Thong). The original purpose was to use it as a royal temple and a place for the royal family to make merit. Later, it became a center for studying Dharma and a place for religious ceremonies.
