Ayutthaya Kingdom Ruins

📍Ayutthaya Ruins

🚃 From Bangkok's central station, Hua Lamphong, it takes about an hour and a half by train to reach Ayutthaya.

I visited in September, but exploring under the scorching sun felt dangerous, so I only bought a ticket for the most famous Wat Mahathat and entered there.

The ruins of the Ayutthaya Kingdom are spread across multiple sites, but for those who aren't particularly interested, visiting just the famous spots should suffice.

The Buddha head entwined in the roots of a Bodhi tree can be seen with the Wat Mahathat entrance ticket 🎫.

The serene and mysterious "Archaic Smile" of the Buddha head stood out remarkably, giving it a mystical aura 🌱. Most of the Buddha statues within the ruins are headless, which further accentuates the impression of that smile.

Since there is little shade, be cautious of heatstroke when visiting ⚠️.
