Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya

Bonita Voyage takes you to visit Wat Mahathat, an ancient site within the Ayutthaya Historical Park. This temple was significant during the Ayutthaya period, built during the reign of King Borommarachathirat I. It housed the Buddha's relics and was destroyed during the second fall of Ayutthaya.

Wat Mahathat features a large prang and an octagonal chedi, which is a unique four-tiered, eight-sided structure found only in Ayutthaya. There are many interesting spots to explore within the temple, with the highlight being the 'Buddha head in tree roots,' an over 100-year-old sandstone Buddha head entwined in the roots of a Bodhi tree. This Unseen Thailand attraction is renowned worldwide, drawing both Thai and international tourists to marvel at the Buddha head in the tree roots.

Anyone visiting Ayutthaya should stop by to admire the beauty of Wat Mahathat. Despite being in ruins, it remains a cultural heritage site and a spiritual center for the people of Ayutthaya, worthy of preservation. 🙏🏻😊 Come visit!
