"Wat Chaiwatthanaram", a beautiful and ancient temple of Ayutthaya

This ancient site on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River outside the city island, located within the Ayutthaya Historical Park, was built during the reign of King Prasat Thong in 2173 CE. Modeled after Angkor Wat, it was a significant royal temple during the late Ayutthaya period.

The most striking structure at Wat Chaiwatthanaram is the large central prang. This prang, symbolizing Mount Sumeru, is a four-sided prang surrounded by four smaller prangs, each with a pointed top and a covered gallery. Eight crematoriums surround the prang, and the ubosot (ordination hall) stands in front of the walls of the crematoriums. Only the base remains.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram is one of the most beautiful ancient sites, and the Fine Arts Department has been constantly restoring it, allowing tourists to admire its magnificent beauty and grandeur. Anyone visiting Ayutthaya should definitely stop by. The temple grounds are dotted with shops offering traditional Thai clothing rentals. Visitors can rent costumes, access makeup, and get their hair and makeup done in one place. There are several prices to choose from. Admission is 10 baht for Thais and 50 baht for foreigners.
