Unseen Buddha Head in Tree Roots, Ayutthaya

This year's End of Buddhist Lent Day falls on October 7, 2025. It's a one-day holiday, and for such a special occasion, we recommend a trip not far from Bangkok that is both spiritually enriching and historically educational. A must-visit destination is the ancient sites and World Heritage temples in Ayutthaya province.

Wat Mahathat is one of the most significant temples from the Ayutthaya period. It housed the Buddha's relics and served as the residence of the Supreme Patriarch at the time.

The highlight of this temple, considered an Unseen Thailand attraction, is the over 100-year-old Buddha head entwined in the roots of a Bodhi tree. The serene smile on the Buddha's face evokes a sense of wonder, faith, and profound contentment.

Location: Wat Mahathat is located on Naresuan Road, Tha Wasukri Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.

Opening Hours: Open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Admission Fee: Thai nationals 10 THB / Foreigners 50 THB.

**You can purchase a combined ticket to visit various temples, ancient sites, and historical parks. For more information, contact the Ayutthaya Historical Park at 035-242286.
