Walking through the ruins of Port Arthur felt like stepping into history. The site is beautifully preserved, with old sandstone buildings and sweeping views over the bay. I joined a guided walking tour and a harbor cruise, both of which gave deep insight into Australia’s convict past. It was surprisingly peaceful despite its dark history, and the stories were powerful. The gardens and old prison cells were hauntingly atmospheric. It’s a meaningful and well-spent summer day in Tasmania.
