Faith engraved on blue tiles

#JulyTravelSupport

Walking through the narrow streets of downtown Porto, a wall catches the eye. Like a giant picture book, the mural, created by intersecting blue and white tiles, quietly tells a story. This is the Igreja do Carmo Church, a Baroque cathedral with one of Porto's most beautiful azulejo façades.

Built in the late 18th century, the azulejo murals that cover the exterior of this cathedral immediately captivate visitors, even before their eyes.

The blue paintings on the white walls depict scenes from the Ascension of the Prophet Elijah and Mount Carmel, showcasing the essence of traditional Portuguese ceramic decoration.
