Portofino is definitely one of those places where you notice the crowds right away, but honestly, it’s still worth going. The little harbor with its brightly painted houses is every bit as pretty as the photos suggest, and when the sun hits the water, the colors look incredible. Even with lots of visitors around, the setting itself has a charm that makes you forget about it for a while.

I spent some time just walking around the main piazza by the waterfront, watching the boats come and go, and it felt lively rather than overwhelming. There are also some nice short walks you can do from the center, like heading up to the church or the castle for views over the bay.

It’s true that Portofino has a more polished, exclusive vibe compared to other Ligurian towns, but there’s something iconic about standing there and seeing that famous view in person. Crowds or not, I’m glad I went.
