Meizhou Island

🌟 Meizhou Island: The Legend of Mazu on the Celestial Island

🌊 An island sculpted by ocean waves
Standing at the Ewei Divine Stone Park on Meizhou Island, the sea breeze carries a salty tang. Shaped like eyebrows, this island has been called "Meizhou" since ancient times. Song Dynasty poet Liu Kezhuang described it as a "divine grotto on the sea." Every reef here seems to whisper tales of maritime history spanning millennia.

🏯 Birthplace of Mazu Culture
1️⃣ Mazu Ancestral Temple
Builders: Song Dynasty fishermen
Story: This is the birthplace of Lin Moniang (Mazu). In 960 AD, she was born in this fishing village, reportedly filling the room with divine fragrance at birth. The temple complex, built into the mountainside with five golden courtyards, has maintained continuous worship for a thousand years. On Mazu's birthday (23rd day of the 3rd lunar month), tens of thousands of pilgrims arrive.
Tip: Visit at dawn to witness local fishermen's devout incense offerings and experience authentic Mazu worship.

2️⃣ Ewei Divine Stone Park
Geological wonder: Sea-eroded formations
Story: Millions of years of wave erosion created over 60 figurative stone formations like "Turtle Pilgrim" and "Sea Gate." Most miraculous is the "Mazu Library" - natural stone patterns resembling ancient texts, where legend says Mazu studied celestial books.
Personal experience: At sunset, golden light filters through stone crevices, casting a mystical glow on these "stone books."

3️⃣ Meiyu Tide Sound
Natural phenomenon: Oceanic symphony
Story: Countless natural cavities in the reef produce melodic sounds with tidal movements, called "Meiyu Tide Music" by ancients. Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake marveled at this "heavenly concert."
Tip: Best experienced at high tide - check tide schedules.

4️⃣ Golden Beach
Feature: Island shoreline
Legend: The fine golden sand was where young Mazu pondered rescuing fishermen. Today it's both tourist destination and fishermen's blessing site before voyages.

🌅 At dusk, overlooking the island from the temple mountain, red-roofed white buildings contrast beautifully with blue seas. Distant boat horns create magical resonance with thousand-year-old Mazu legends. This island boasts not only stunning landscapes but also embodies Chinese maritime heritage.
